Common GE Dryer Problems
- Electric dryer runs but does not heat. GE says to confirm the dryer has a dedicated 240V supply, reset the breaker fully off and on, and then inspect the power cord and terminal block for burned or loose connections. Source: GE Appliances - Electric Dryer - Runs But Does Not Heat
- Gas dryer runs but does not heat. GE says to confirm a real drying cycle and temperature are selected, keep the front of the dryer unblocked, check the dedicated 120V outlet, and on new installs make sure the gas line is turned on. Source: GE Appliances - Gas Dryer - Runs But Does Not Heat
- Dryer takes too long to dry. GE points first to venting (metal duct, no kinks, clear wall cap) and a clean lint filter, then to load size, dryer level and washer spin speed. Source: GE Appliances - Dryer - Taking Too Long To Dry Clothes or Not Drying at All
- Dryer hot to the touch or sweating. GE says this usually means heat and humidity cannot escape, so clean the exhaust duct, clear the wall cap and confirm the elbow count suits the vent length. Source: GE Appliances - Dryer - Hot to the Touch or Sweats
- Dryer will not run or start. GE's first check is that the dryer plug is pushed fully into the wall outlet. Source: GE Appliances - Dryer - Will Not Run or Start
- Check Vent alert. GE says to unplug the dryer, disconnect and vacuum the duct, and make sure the outside hood damper moves freely. Source: GE Appliances - Dryer - Check Vent Sensor Alert
Care GE Recommends
- Clean the lint filter before every load and periodically wash it in warm soapy water to remove fabric softener film. Source: GE Appliances - Dryer - Taking Too Long To Dry Clothes or Not Drying at All
- Inspect and clean the exhaust duct at least once a year by unplugging the dryer, disconnecting the duct and vacuuming it, and check that the outside hood flaps move freely with no nests inside. Source: GE Appliances - Dryer - How to Clean Exhaust / Vent Duct
- GE does not state one maximum vent length on its support pages; it says to follow the model's installation instructions for allowed duct length and number of elbows, and recommends a 4-inch outside wall cap. Source: GE Appliances - Dryer - Things To Check For A Venting Issue
- On the UltraFast Combo, clean the mesh lint filter about every fifth dry cycle or when prompted, and clean the foam filter and filter compartment about every 50 cycles. Source: GE Appliances - GE Profile UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer - Filter Cleaning
