LG Dryer Error Codes Explained

What each LG dryer code means, what you can safely try, and when to call for repair.

LG Dryer Error Codes Explained

Most LG dryer codes point to something you can check yourself: a clogged exhaust duct, a lint filter that is not seated, a door that is not fully shut, or a power supply problem. Airflow codes like d80, d90 and d95 are the most common. If a code comes back after the fixes LG recommends, especially nP, PS, gAS or a tE code, the dryer needs a repair visit.

Codes and their meanings can differ between LG models, and LG's own US support library has more than one code list. Treat this page as a guide and confirm with the owner's manual for your model. This site is an independent directory of local repair companies. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by LG.

Before you troubleshoot

  • Unplug the dryer or turn off its breaker before you move it or disconnect the vent.
  • Gas dryer: if you smell gas, leave the house without touching switches or controls, and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.
  • Write down the exact code. It helps a technician bring the right parts on the first visit.

LG dryer code chart

CodeWhat LG says it meansWhat to try
d75, d80, d90, d95The exhaust duct is clogged, roughly 75 to 95 percent. On gas models, d80 can also mean no gas supply.Clean the lint filter, then check the duct and outside vent for crushing, kinks or lint.
E1, E4Restricted airflow between the dryer and the outside vent (listed on some LG code pages).Same airflow checks; use smaller loads.
nPNo current detected at the heater, usually a home wiring issue.Check the cord, turn the breaker off for at least 10 seconds, and have an electrician check the outlet.
PSIncorrect voltage in the power cord, possibly reversed wires at the terminal block.Confirm a grounded 240V outlet, reset the breaker, have the cord installation checked.
gASThe dryer is not getting gas (a display message on gas models).Make sure the gas valve is fully open and the line is not kinked.
dEThe door is not fully closed.Push the lint filter all the way in, clear clothing from the door, reset power for 5 seconds, close firmly and press Start.
F0 / FO, INSERT FILTERThe lint filter is missing or not seated, so the dryer stops.Remove the filter and reinsert it fully.
HSHumidity sensor error; the dryer may run about two and a half hours.Wipe the sensor bars below the lint filter with a damp cloth and let them dry.
tE1, tE3Thermistor (temperature sensor) problem.Do a control reset (below).
tE2Thermistor problem, usually in cold conditions or during steam cycles.Warm the dryer with an empty cycle, and clear snow, ice and lint from the outside vent.
PFUsually appears after a power outage.Do a control reset.
E13Hybrid condensing models only: the drain hose is kinked, clogged or frozen.Straighten the hose and use only the standard LG hose, then press Start/Pause.
AddThe steam feeder needs water.Fill the feeder with tap water to the max line and close the drawer.
CLChild Lock is on. Not a fault.Hold the Child Lock button for about 3 seconds.

LG also shows "Check Filter" as a reminder to clean the lint filter, not an error.

Airflow codes: d75 to d95, E1 and E4

These are the codes LG owners see most. The dryer measures how hard it is to push air out, and the number climbs as the duct gets more blocked. LG's fix list starts with the lint filter, then the duct behind the dryer, which should be rigid or semi-rigid metal running straight or in a gentle S-curve. Outside, run an Air Dry cycle and make sure the vent flaps open fully. If the code returns, LG points you to a professional dryer vent cleaner rather than a repair technician, and recommends having the vent cleaned yearly.

Do not ignore these codes. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission notes that long drying times and weak airflow at the outside vent are signs of a blocked duct, and the U.S. Fire Administration warns that lint buildup can cause fires. Our guide to clogged dryer vent warning signs explains what to look for.

Power and heat codes: nP, PS and gAS

All three usually show up with a dryer that runs but does not heat. For nP and PS, LG suggests resetting the breaker and confirming a grounded 240V outlet, then calling a licensed electrician to check the outlet voltage. If the outlet is fine and the dryer still will not heat, LG says it needs repair. For gAS, check that the gas valve is fully open. On a new install, contact the installer. On an older dryer with the gas on and an undamaged line, it needs repair. Never adjust gas fittings yourself. See our LG dryer not heating and gas dryer not heating guides for more checks.

Sensor and thermistor codes: tE, HS and PF

A thermistor is the temperature sensor the control board reads to manage heat. For tE1, tE3 and PF, LG's reset is: unplug the dryer or trip its breaker, press and hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds while the power is off, then restore power and run a cycle. If the code keeps coming back, LG says the dryer may need repair, because the sensor or its wiring may have failed.

HS points to the moisture sensor bars, the metal strips inside the drum below the lint filter. When the dryer cannot read moisture properly it runs long, which can look like it is not drying. LG's fix is to wipe the bars with a damp cloth and let them dry fully; if HS persists, the dryer may need repair. If clothes still come out wet, our dryer not drying guide covers other causes.

Drain-hose codes on condensing and ventless models

LG dryers that collect water instead of venting it outside use a drain hose. Besides E13, one of LG's US code lists ties some tE codes, along with dRn and OE, to a kinked, blocked or raised drain hose on those models. LG says to straighten the hose, keep its top under about 1 meter off the floor and rest it on a firm, even surface. This is a good example of why the same code can mean different things on different LG machines, so check your manual.

Door, filter and lock codes

dE, F0 and CL are usually not breakdowns. Make sure the lint filter is pushed all the way in, nothing is caught in the door, and Child Lock is off. If dE keeps returning with the door firmly shut, LG says the unit needs service, since the door switch or latch may be faulty. If your dryer will not start at all, see dryer won't start.

When to call a technician

  • The same code returns after LG's fix and a reset.
  • nP, PS or gAS persists after the outlet or gas supply checks out.
  • A tE code keeps coming back after a control reset.
  • You smell burning, or the dryer or vent gets unusually hot.
  • The dryer shows a code not in your manual.

Our LG dryer repair directory lists local companies by state, including California, with city pages for Los Angeles and Phoenix. If your washer is acting up too, many of the same companies handle washer and dryer repair.

What repairs behind these codes cost

Angi says a service call usually runs $50 to $80 and that most homeowners pay between $100 and $430 for a dryer repair. Fixr lists a thermostat replacement at $100 to $260, a door switch at $50 to $150 and a heating element at $150 to $350. A vent cleaning is a separate service from appliance repair.
